Ultraviolet radiation is damaging to the skin. UVA penetrates the deepest, passing through the lens onto the retina, the back surface of the eye. UVB causes sunburn and whilst less penetrating, can cause damage and sunburn to the delicate skin around the eye. Harmful rays are also emitted from a computer screen and digital devices.
It is important to protect the eyes from harmful rays even on cloudy days. This is done best by wearing sunglasses. Some contact lens has UVA and UVB inhibitors. Sun protection needs to commence from an early age as the damage is accumulative over time.
We recommend good quality sunglasses for all Australians. Prescription sunglasses can be made to suit your individual needs.
